Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to skate?
Nope. But getting out to some open skates and getting comfortable enough on hockey skates to move around the ice is a great idea. In order to really enjoy the game, you'll need to learn to skate, but you don't need to be exceptional from the get go.
Do you have gear I can borrow?
We sure do - for your first couple of games. Once you're hooked, you'll need to get your own gear so the next woman can use our demo set.
Do you have practices? Games? Both?
Games! We get together once a week to play for an hour, and we coach on the fly. Meaning, we'll explain the rules before we go out, remind you of the rules on the ice, and explain things that aren't clear on the bench. This is a developmental league, and everyone is out here to get some exercise, hang out with some awesome ladies, and have fun.
Are there any clinics I can attend?
Yes. From time to time we hold women's only clinics as well as combined clinics for the men's and women's league. Those are a great time to get some coaching and instruction on hockey fundamentals. The ice rink also regularly holds stick and puck times, which is unstructured time to get out on the ice in your gear and practice with a puck - highly recommended for newer players.
Do you check? Will I get hurt?
No, we don't check, and we try very hard to keep ourselves and each other off the injured list, but, it is ice hockey, and you will fall down. So get a good helmet, wear a mouthguard, make sure your skates fit and you
know how to use them, and then relax and have fun!
When do you play?
Every Sunday night from Sept. - early Dec. and Jan. - April. Start times vary, but they are typically between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
